PCMC to establish integrated hawker zones in Pimpri Chinchwad

Pune: The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has decided to set up hawker zones for the convenience of hawkers & citizens.

As per a PCMC press release, under the chairmanship of Shekhar Singh, Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Commissioner, a PCMC City Hawker Committee meeting was recently held at Madhukar Pavle Auditorium.

Vijaykumar Khorate, PCMC Additional Commissioner, Vijaykumar Sarnaik, Assistant Commissioner, zonal officers and members of the city hawker committee were also present in the meeting.

In the meeting, it was decided to create hawker zones or hawker areas in the same areas for hawkers who are doing business in different parts of the cities. In this, ward-wise hawker areas have been decided as follows:

The main objective is to free up the roads and squares by creating hawkers’ zones preferably in areas where there is a lot of traffic obstruction.

This will provide relief to the people in the city who cause traffic problems as hawkers run their businesses on the footpaths and are subjected to frequent actions taken by the encroachment department.

In the hawkers’ zone, space will be allotted to the authorized hawkers in the city in coordination with the zonal officers, encroachment department and various hawker associations. Also, the rent of space has been fixed for the hawkers in the city, so that the hawker will have the right to use that space after paying the specific space rent/ground rent to the Municipal Corporation, Vijaykumar Sarnaik, Assistant Commissioner of PCMC Land & Estates Department has informed.
