Chinchwad: The bridge joining Kalewadi Chinchwad has been transformed into a selfie point which was earlier a hotspot of garbage. The foul smell of the trash was causing problems for citizens passing by the bridge.

After Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) started collecting garbage from door to door, the garbage bins kept in open areas were stopped. Although, the Municipal Corporation is trying to make the city clean and open dustbin free, an open dustbin is kept at a bridge over Pavana River connecting Chinchwad Kalewadi to fill with the garbage. The citizens were throwing waste on open space on this bridge. Therefore, PCMC set up a board at “Don’t throw garbage or face strict action” on the bridge.

There is MM private school in Kalewadi and a municipal school in Keshavnagar, Chinchwad. As a result, hundreds of citizens and students travel across this bridge. And the bad odour of garbage due to the garbage piles on both sides of the bridge. And stray dogs were searching for food in the garbage pit. Citizens going on morning walks had to deal with these stray dogs.

The Municipal Corporation and the ward by spending Rs 40,000 decided to develop this area in order to close the waste disposal at site. The mushroom and rambo theme selfie booth has been developed on the bridge by Junior Engineer Sanjay Lokhande with the concept of Deputy Engineer Kiran Andure under the Supervision of Prashant Patil, Executive Engineer, Development Department.

“Developmental department of PCMC made this to beautify the bridge and avoid citizens from throwing here garbage. Since the selfie point is made here, citizens have not thrown here waste,” said Ajay Charthankar, Assitant Commissioner of PCMC.
