The population of Pimpri Chinchwad city is increasing rapidly. It is seen that citizens have preferred Pimpri Chinchwad as a place to live due to its livable conditions. At present, due to the increased population, the demand for water has also increased significantly along with the infrastructure facilities. Due to this, the PCMC has implemented four schemes in the last 18 months to provide abundant water to the citizens of the city and till date, funds of around 42 crores have been received from the Central Government. Commissioner Shekhar Singh informed that Rs 238 crore will be spent on these four schemes and all the works under the project are currently in progress.

Shekhar Singh, PCMC Commissioner, said “The city of Pimpri Chinchwad is attracting citizens today due to its infrastructure facilities. Therefore, the population of the city is increasing in a big way. We are always committed to meet the basic needs of the growing population while providing infrastructure. Along with this, the water supply department of the municipality is continuously working on the increasing demand of water in the PCMC. Currently, work is going on in the city through four packages to provide abundant water to the citizens and to increase the water efficiency of the city. Therefore, the municipal administration will always be committed to provide abundant water to the citizens within the PCMC limits.”

Pradeep Jambhale Patil, Additional Commissioner, PCMC, said “The demand for water has also increased due to the increased population within the municipal limits. Due to the increased demand for water, the water supply department of the municipality is constantly striving for water storage. We have implemented a scheme worth 238 crores to increase the water capacity and the work which has been going on for the last 18 months is progressing towards completion at a fast pace. Main water channels and large tanks will be constructed in this. As much as 238 crores will be spent for the scheme and the said work has been started assuming the increasing population of 2041. All the works in the said plan are currently in progress.”

Leak prevention channels in 60 percent area of PCMC

The water supply department of the municipality is constantly striving to meet the increasing demand of water within the municipal limits. In order to provide abundant water to the citizens, under the government’s ‘Amrut 1 Yojana’, high density polyethylene (HDPE) water pipes with leakage prevention have been laid in 60 percent of the entire area by the PCMC.

At the same time, materials such as medium density polyethylene (MDPE) water pipes have been used to re-connect 1,25,000 old tap joints. To stop the leakage in the water channels of the city, the municipal corporation is laying the best quality pipeline and this will stop the water leakage in the future.

Phase 1) Areas – Dudulgaon, Choviswadi, Vadmukhwadi, Charholi – Works – Construction of Main Pipeline and 8 Tanks – Rs 62.43 Crores

Phase 2) Areas – Chikhali, Moshi, and Areas – Works – Construction of Main Pipeline and 3 Tanks – Rs 59.43 Crores

Phase 3) Areas – Bhosari, Wakad, Thergaon, – Works – Construction of Main Pipeline and 9 Tanks – Rs 64.66 Crores

Phase 4) Areas – Kiwale, Punawale, Tathawade – Works – Construction of main pipeline and 10 tanks – Rs 51.78 crores
