Pune: The sub-inspector from the Pimpri Chinchwad police, who had won a sum of Rs 1.5 crore on a fantasy cricket platform, has been suspended from active duty following a preliminary inquiry that was ordered against him one week ago. 

Officials have stated that a departmental inquiry will now be carried out against sub-inspector Somnath Zende. As part of these inquiries, the legality of his actions and his adherence to the established norms for police personnel are being examined. 

According to officials, the preliminary inquiry has confirmed that Zende earned Rs 1.5 crore by participating in a fantasy cricket platform during the ongoing ICC Men’s World Cup. At the time, Zende was assigned to the riot control team of the Pimpri Chinchwad police commissionerate.

As per the information received, the inquiry was conducted by Deputy Commissioner of Police Swapna Gore. Based on the findings of the inquiry, the sub-inspector has been suspended from active duty pending a departmental inquiry. This inquiry will now be conducted by another officer.
