Pimpri: In a significant move towards achieving a green India, the Pune Railway Division has successfully installed a 55 kWp solar power plant on the roof of Pimpri Railway Station. The installation was commissioned in the presence of Divisional Railway Manager Indu Dubey.

This solar power plant, which has been set up by ThyssenKrupp under Corporate Social Responsibility with the help of the Electricity Department of the Board, consists of 165 solar modules that cover an area of 239 sq.m. It is expected to save an average of ā‚¹35,000 per month in electricity bills. The electrical energy generated by the plant will be used to power Pimpri Railway Station, thereby meeting the daily electrical energy needs of the station while also providing additional electricity that will be sent to MSEDCL.

The establishment of the solar power plant is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 1451 tonnes per year, which is equivalent to planting 2322 trees in terms of carbon absorption. This move is a significant contribution by the Central Railway Pune Division towards realizing the Indian Railways’ commitment to achieving “Zero Carbon Emission” by the year 2030.
