Pune Municipal Corporation has invited tenders for privatisation of the general hospital located in KPCT mall in Fatima Nagar.
The civic body has invited tenders to privatise the hospital to be given on lease for 28 years. The last date to send the tender application is January 19, 2023.

The hospital was inaugurated at the hands of former deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar on March 13, 2022. It was created as an additional facility to treat Covid19 patients, mainly children though it was hardly used.

Former corporator of Wanowrie and president, Pune city, Nationalist Congress Party, Prashant Jagtap told Pune Pulse that the facility was created to treat Covid19 patients mainly children. He said that it was shocking to know that the PMC is offering this facility to be privatised. “The set-up is ready. PMC could have filled up the required positions by holding recruitment programmes instead of giving it to any private entity. Citizens are looking forward to a PMC-run hospital which will offer wide services at a reasonable cost,” he said.

When Pune Pulse spoke to Sahil Kedari, vice president, OBC cell, Maharashtra state, he said that a similar strategy was used also at the Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj Hospital in Kedari Nagar. “We opposed it stating that citizens want health services from PMC at subsidised rates. There are ample private health care centres in the area where state-of-the-art facilities are available,” he said.

Former corporator of Wanowrie Kalinda Punde, stated that she has sought detailed information from PMC regarding the issue. “This should not have happened and I strongly oppose it,” she said.
