G20 summit meetings: PMC’s garden department to ‘beautify’ city with 4000 trees

Pune: Ahead of the G-20 summit meetings in Pune, the beautification work of the city has begun on a large scale. All roads and bridges from Pune Lohegaon Airport to Senapati Bapat Road have been cleaned, repaired, painted, street lights have been repaired and trees have been  planted. 
The garden department of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is planting big seasonal trees on dividers between the two lanes and on the sides of the roads. The work of the tree plantation has been initiated from the Yerawada side and most of the trees are being placed on the bridges on roads between the Pune airport and SB road. 

Ashok Ghorpade, Chief Garden Superintendent, PMC said, “We have instructed the commissioner to beautify the area. We are planting at least 4,000 trees at various places on the stretch of 10 km from Airport to Senapati Bapat road. We are planting seasonal plants which are similar to the trees in other countries. We are focusing on bridges and open spaces on the side of roads to plant trees.”
