Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is planning to demolish the foot overbridge (FOB) at Vishrantwadi Chowk to construct a flyover & a grade separator.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Ajaykumar Wayse, Executive Engineer, PMC said, “We are planning to demolish the foot overbridge at Vishrantwadi Chowk as it could prove to be a hurdle for traffic flow. To ease traffic flow, we are planning to build a flyover & grade separator at the place. Currently, a comprehensive study is going on regarding the foot overbridge, the aftermath of the demolition of the FOB, the feasibility of a flyover & grade separator, and more.”

He further said, “Traffic flows in all directions at Vishrantwadi chowk, causing chaos, especially during peak hours. Based on our current study, combining grade separators with underpasses at all these junctions can reduce traffic by 80%. To achieve this, we need to remove the current FOB. Vishrantwadi Chowk in particular will have a Y-shaped underpass along with a flyover from Alandi Road to Lohegaon, for which we will need to remove the present FOB. Without this, we will not be able to construct the flyover along with the grade separator.”

As per further information, the current FOB was built nearly 10 years ago. However, the PMC decided to build a flyover with a grade separator. Vishrantwadi chowk is one of the busiest junctions where the roads leading from Alandi to Pune airport and from Pune airport to Dhanori come together. This juncture requires traffic control and safety measures.
