The number of e-vehicles is increasing in the city but the installation of E-stations is happening at a snail pace. As per the data available with the regional transport office, there are close to 6,724 E-vehicles, while there are only 67 E-stations.

There are fewer common charging stations in the city and so, people are facing difficulties to take the vehicles on long rides.

To address this, Pune Municipal Corporation is planning to set up 500 E-charging stations in a phased manner. Also, an EV cell has been constituted to promote the use of E-vehicles.

“PMC has a plan to set up E-vehicle Charging stations in parking lots, buildings and open spaces. In the first phase, PMC is planning to launch 100 stations. While 200 each in the second and third phase,” said Mangesh Dhige, the PMC’s environment head.

Kapil Rege who uses e-bikes said, “E stations are a must to promote the use of E-vehicles. PMC should install E charging stations on priority.”
