Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has formed 15 teams under the leadership of additional municipal commissioner Kunal Khemnar to address air pollution and deter garbage burning due to rising air pollution in the city. These teams will supervise construction sites to ensure compliance with preventive measures and adopt a more assertive approach to tackle garbage burning.

As per the information provided, PMC’s inspection teams have commenced evaluations of construction sites and issued notices to six sites, directing them to adhere to the prescribed regulations. Khemnar also highlighted the directive for the solid waste management department to intensify efforts in curbing waste burning and garbage disposal, with officials mandated to submit daily reports. If construction sites are found to be in violation of regulations, they will be required to cease all activities until necessary measures are implemented, as per the statement.

Sandeep Kadam, the head of PMC’s solid waste management department, mentioned that despite efforts to prevent waste burning, citizens continue to report issues. Sanitary inspectors have been instructed to enhance surveillance in their respective areas and take immediate action as needed.
