Pune: The vehicular traffic of heavy vehicles plying on the Punawale-Tathawade underpass has been closed by the Pimpri Chinchwad Traffic Police due to construction and refurbishing work on the Punawale side of the underpass.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Sunil Pinjan, Senior Police Inspector, Wakad Traffic Division said, “The heavy vehicular traffic is completely closed on the Punawale-Tathawade underpass. Refurbishing & strengthening work of both the Punawale & Tathawade sides has been going on. The work of the Tathawade side is complete. However, due to the work such as putting pillars, columns, etc going on at Punawale side, the heavy vehicle traffic is closed until the work gets completed, which is planned to be done within 2 to 3 days.”

As per information, large residential societies are there on both sides of the Punawale-Tathawade underpass. Many shops, establishments, and showrooms are also located in this area. Therefore, there is movement of several citizens in this area.

Punawale-Tathawade underpass is used to reach Punawale, Tathawade, Jambe, Nere, Pande Vasti, and Hinjawadi. This underpass on the Bangalore-Mumbai highway is always crowded. Dumpers, mixers, and other heavy vehicles pass through this route. This slows down traffic and creates traffic jams.

To reduce this traffic jam, all types of heavy vehicles have been banned from the Punawale-Tathawade underpass. The Deputy Commissioner of Pimpri Chinchwad Traffic Police has said that these vehicles will go to the desired destination through a large underpass in Ravet.
