Pune district gears up for the Lok Sabha elections, with four constituencies and 8382 polling stations. To manage this task, 71 thousand officers and employees are required. The first training session for these employees was held on Monday, April 15.

However, about five thousand employees were absent from this crucial training session. In response, Collector and District Election Officer Suhas Diwase announced that action would be taken against these absentees in accordance with the rules.

Dr. Diwase shed light on the district’s significance in the electoral process, emphasizing its vast size compared to other districts in the state. He explained that due to the presence of four Lok Sabha constituencies, a sizable system needs to be put in place for the smooth conduct of elections.

Dr. Diwase also addressed the absenteeism issue, noting that approximately ten percent of the employees were absent from the training. He speculated that some employees might have been assigned multiple election duties. To rectify this, a thorough check will be conducted, and notices will be issued to non-working employees accordingly.

Additionally, recognizing the importance of gender representation, Dr. Diwase highlighted that some government departments boast a 40 percent female workforce. To ensure inclusivity, women employees will be assigned electoral work in their respective constituencies, with a unique initiative to pair one woman with another for support.
