Pune's Rainfall Puzzle: Why Some Parts Drenched While Others Stay Dry

The erratic distribution of rainfall in Pune over the past few days has left many puzzled, with some areas experiencing heavy showers while others remain dry.

On Tuesday, for instance, Shivajinagar recorded 5mm of rain, while Lohegaon saw 10mm. Such discrepancies are often attributed to local disturbances caused by the high daytime heat, which triggers cloud formation.

Despite the rain, temperatures have remained stubbornly high, with most parts of Pune recording temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius. This scorching heat, coupled with a touch of moisture in the air, creates ideal conditions for thunder and lightning.

However, the lack of sufficient moisture prevents heavy downpours, resulting in only certain parts of the city receiving rainfall.

Consequently, while some areas enjoy relief from the heat, others continue to swelter. The combination of high temperatures and humidity poses risks of heatstroke, urging caution among citizens.

Additionally, the increased lightning activity necessitates safety precautions, such as avoiding open spaces and seeking shelter during thunderstorms. As the hot and humid conditions persist, Pune residents brace themselves for more discomfort in the days ahead.
