The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has requested the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to stop the proposed Monorail project at Tatyasaheb Thorat Garden in Kothrud.

As per further information from AAP, Thorat Udyan is the largest and most populated garden in Kothrud area. Residents of the area come to the Thorat Garden in Kothrud in large numbers to walk, run, exercise, practice yoga, relax etc. Children use this garden to play. Due to the lack of open spaces in the Kothrud area, this garden is crowded in the morning and evening.

A letter was sent to Vikas Dhakne, additional Commissioner, Pune Municipal Corporation by members of AAP.

As the space in Thorat Udyan is decreasing day by day, now the Pune Municipal Corporation is trying to build a monorail at this place by spending Rs 5 crore. About 70 pillars will be planted in the garden for this purpose. Due to this, the open space in the garden will be greatly reduced and it will be a big problem for the citizens who go to the garden every day.

Why is there a plan to start a monorail in Kothrud, spending crores of rupees, when there is a metro in the vicinity of Thorat Garden?

No local civic groups or citizens have demanded the start of monorail. Hence, the Pune Municipal Corporation should not begin Monorail. The garden-loving citizens of Kothrud have widely opposed the monorail. The Pune Municipal Corporation should take serious notice of it. Also, the Aam Aadmi Party is strongly opposed to starting the monorail in Thorat Udyan.

Pune Municipal Corporation should stop this initiative immediately considering the opposition of the intelligent citizens of Kothrud. Otherwise, Aam Aadmi Party will have to take the stand of a protest.
