PUNE: Pune Airport has climbed from 74th to 67th place in the global Airport Service Quality (ASQ) rankings for the fourth quarter (October–December) of 2024, according to the latest survey by Airports Council International (ACI). This improvement comes alongside an upgraded ASQ score of 4.91, up from 4.84 in Q3 2024, surpassing the global ASQ average of 4.32.

The improved ranking is largely attributed to the launch of the New Integrated Terminal Building (NITB) and enhanced passenger amenities. These upgrades have helped Pune Airport outperform many competitors globally.

“Pune Airport’s global ranking has improved by seven places, moving from 74th to 67th in Q4 2024. This rise highlights the airport’s commitment to better services and passenger experiences.”

Staff Behavior and Cleanliness Issues Mar Progress

Despite improvements in facilities and rankings, passengers have raised concerns regarding rude behavior from ground staff and unclean washrooms. Several flyers reported a lack of courtesy and inadequate assistance from airline personnel, especially during peak hours.

Airport Management Responds to Passenger Complaints

Addressing these issues, immediate actions were being taken:

“A meeting was held with all stakeholders, and clear instructions were given to ensure staff is courteous to passengers. Peak-hour congestion often causes airlines to face manpower shortages, which impacts service quality. To address this:
Airlines have been directed to increase their staff during peak hours.
Additional floor managers from all airlines are now deployed to assist flyers.
Focus on maintaining washroom hygiene has been increased with additional housekeeping staff.

 Pune Airport’s Future Goals:

The airport management has committed to maintaining its upward trajectory in global rankings by:

  1. Expanding passenger-friendly services.
  2. Implementing advanced technology for smoother operations.
  3. Ensuring clean and hygienic facilities.
  4. Providing courteous and efficient staff services.

Pune Airport: Balancing Growth with Quality Service

The improvement in ASQ rankings showcases Pune Airport’s commitment to world-class infrastructure and passenger satisfaction. However, addressing the concerns over staff behavior and cleanliness will be crucial for maintaining this progress and achieving higher ASQ scores in the future.
