Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has left the decision of his son Jay Pawar contesting the Baramati assembly seat in the hands of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). Ajit Pawar, who has represented the constituency for several terms, expressed that he is “not interested” in running for elections himself.

Addressing queries regarding Jay Pawar’s potential candidacy, Ajit Pawar highlighted that the decision would be democratic, emphasizing his extensive history in electoral politics. He hinted at stepping back from an active political role, suggesting that if the NCP parliamentary board and supporters endorse Jay as a candidate, the party might consider his nomination.

Despite this, state NCP chief Sunil Tatkare later clarified that Ajit Pawar had not explicitly ruled out participating in the upcoming assembly elections. The NCP’s final decision will be influenced by internal discussions and the preferences of the party and its supporters.

Ajit Pawar’s elder son, Parth Pawar, previously contested the Maval Lok Sabha seat in 2019 but was defeated by a wide margin.
