Pune: Baner-Side Flyover at University Chowk to Open for Public Tomorrow; Expected to Ease Traffic Towards Aundh, Baner and Pashan
Pune: The much-awaited Baner arm of the integrated double-decker flyover at Savitribai Phule Pune University Chowk will open for public use on Saturday, March 8, providing major relief to commuters travelling between Shivajinagar and the western parts of the city.
The announcement was made by Shivajinagar MLA Siddharth Shirole, who said the new arm of the flyover will help streamline traffic movement along the busy Ganeshkhind Road corridor connecting Aundh, Baner and Pashan.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will inaugurate the flyover through an online ceremony at 10 AM. The event will also be attended by Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar, Union Minister of State Murlidhar Mohol, and Maharashtra minister Chandrakant Patil along with other leaders.
The project is part of the integrated double-decker flyover being developed to improve connectivity at Pune University Chowk, one of the city’s busiest traffic junctions. The Aundh–Shivajinagar arm of the flyover had already been opened in August 2025.
However, the Baner and Pashan ramps faced delays due to utility shifting work and structural safety checks. Officials from the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority recently confirmed that final durability testing and installation of traffic signage have been completed.

The double-decker structure features a road flyover on the lower deck, while the upper deck will carry the Pune Metro Line 3 corridor.
Once the Baner arm becomes operational, it is expected to significantly reduce travel time for thousands of daily commuters travelling from Pune towards Baner, Balewadi and Hinjawadi.
Authorities believe the new flyover arm will also help ease congestion at the busy Pune University Square. Meanwhile, work on the final ramp towards the Pashan side is nearing completion and is expected to be finished in the coming months.
