Several Pune based private cab drivers, working for private cab companies, allege that they do not get income according to the newly-revised cab fares by the Regional Transport Office (RTO) Pune.

As per further information shared by Dr Keshav Kshirsagar, President, Indian Gig Workers Front & Baghtoy Rickshawala Association, Pune RTO, on January 4, 2024, fixed the cab fares as per the directives of the Khatua Committee and announced fares of AC and Non-AC cabs.

Dr Kshirsagar further says that after the bandh of gig workers on October 25, 2023, in a joint meeting presided over by the Pune District Collector on November 5, 2023, the cab aggregator companies had promised to revise income as per the auto-rickshaw meter rate within a week if the administration gives the revised rates.

Accordingly, the RTO Pune held a meeting with the said companies on January 4, 2024, and ordered them to implement the revised rates and the companies had agreed in front of the officials and unions that they would change within a week.

However, there is a lot of dissatisfaction among the cab drivers as the companies have not implemented the revised rates till date.

Dr Kshirsagar further continued that despite the orders of the RTO, Pune District Collector, State Transport Commissioner, Central Government, and Supreme Court, many established as well as new cab companies are doing business illegally and the authorities are not taking action against them.

Dr Kshirsagar further said that cab drivers and various organizations held a meeting at Pune Airport and decided to protest on the streets if the companies do not implement the rates fixed by the RTO in the next few days.
