Pune cops ban high intensity beam lights near Pune airport

The Pune police on Monday, October 5, prohibited use of high beam lights in the vicinity of Lohegaon airport at night since it can distract pilots of fighter planes of the Indian Air Force and as well as other aircraft. An order in this regard, by Joint Commissioner of Police, Pune Dr Ravindra Shisave stated that people residing within 15 kms radius of the airport cannot use high beam lights for the next two months between 6 pm to 6 am. Those not abiding the prohibitory orders shall face legal action under Section 188 of the Indian Penal code.

The order also states that event management companies, wedding halls, often use such high beam lights which often causes distraction to the pilots.  

Citizens living around the Lohegaon Air Force Base and Civil Airport in its jurisdiction surrounding 15 kms (Air Field Radius) under Pune Police Commissionerate shall be prohibited to use beam lights from 6 pm to 6 am. The prohibitory orders shall be in force from October 5, 2020 for the next two months. Failing to follow the orders, a person shall be liable for action under section 188 from IPC. 

Lohegaon Airport is busy during the day and night as the runway is used by the Air Force as well as domestic and international flights. During the night, lights may distract the pilots which can lead to an severe aviation disaster.
