Pune Court Allows Divorce Petition of Man Seeking Divorce Due to Low IQ of Wife

Pune : A divorce petition of a man, who was married two years ago, was accepted by Pune’s District and Sessions Court after he cited the low IQ of his wife as the reason. He claimed that he had been subjected to both mental and physical abuse by her. The woman did not appear in the court following which the court delivered a verdict in the husband’s favour.
As per the information, the couple got married in July 2021. Within a few days after the marriage, the husband noticed that the wife was unable to do any household chores. According to him, it was due to her low IQ and he felt that his wife needed treatment. He tried to explain to his wife, pointed out her mistakes and was told to correct them. However, it was seen that his wife was not improving.
One day, the wife had kept the gas cylinder on which was turned off by her neighbours. She was constantly making such small mistakes. Due to doubt in mind, the husband got her IQ test done. The results of the test convinced the husband that his wife does not understand many things. She needed treatment. However, her parents clearly refused to come for their girl’s treatment. So, the husband hired an advocate to get a divorce.
In the petition, the husband mentioned that he suffered physical as well as mental torture. As nobody appeared from the wife’s side, therefore, the court gave a unilateral order. The wife treated her husband cruelly. Therefore, the court approved his divorce petition.
