Pune: Delivery Agent Nabbed For Chain Snatching In Dhankawadi; Police Recover ₹2.5 Lakh Worth Of Stolen Property

In a swift and effective operation, Sahkarnagar Police arrested a chain snatcher who disguised himself as a delivery agent to commit theft. The suspect was nabbed within 48 hours of snatching a gold mangalsutra from a woman during her morning walk near Siddhivinayak Temple in Dhankawadi on May 16.
The incident occurred around 6:00 a.m. when the accused, riding a two-wheeler and dressed as a delivery personnel, approached the victim and fled after snatching her mangalsutra. A case was immediately filed under IPC Sections 304 and 309(6) at Sahkarnagar Police Station.
Under the guidance of Senior PI Rahul Gaud and with the efforts of PSI Sagar Patil and his team, police reviewed over 150 CCTV clips across the area. The suspect, wearing a black-and-yellow T-shirt and blue track pants, was spotted near Ganesh Chowk in Ambegaon Pathar. Upon seeing the police, he tried to escape but was swiftly apprehended.
During interrogation, the suspect admitted to impersonating a Swiggy delivery agent while committing the theft. He was identified as a resident of Samata Colony in Ambegaon Pathar.
Police recovered the stolen mangalsutra weighing 2 tolas worth ₹90,000, the two-wheeler used in the crime valued at ₹60,000, and ₹1,00,000 received from pawning the stolen jewelry. The total recovery amounted to ₹2.5 lakh.
The accused has been remanded to police custody until May 20, 2025, as investigations continue.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of Additional CP (South West Region) Manoj Patil, DCP (Circle 2) Smartana Patil, and ACP (Swargate Division) Rahul Aware. The successful operation involved efforts from PI (Crime) Surekha Chavan, PSI Sagar Patil, and other officers including Bapu Khutwad, Sagar Sutkar, Yogesh Dhole, Pradip Renuse, Mahesh Bhagat, and others.
