Mumbai, August 1 – Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has called for immediate measures to address the growing traffic congestion in the Chakan area, crucial for Pune district and the state’s industrial development. The proposed solutions include creating new parking facilities, removing encroachments, and imposing restrictions on heavy vehicles during peak hours.

Pawar directed the Pune District Collector and Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissioner to inspect the area and implement necessary measures promptly. He highlighted the need for collaboration among various departments, including Public Works, MIDC, Revenue, and National Highway Authority, to resolve the traffic issues.

During a review meeting at the Ministry, attended by Industry Minister Uday Samant, MLA Dilip Mohite Patil, and senior officials, Pawar discussed several key initiatives:

  • – The budget for new roads and widening in Chakan has been allocated ₹179 crore.
  • – MIDC will provide 4 acres of land for a waste processing center.
  • – Additional manpower is required for traffic management at Talegaon Chowk, and unauthorized rickshaws must be controlled.
  • – A truck terminus should be established on grassland near Bhondara Hill to manage heavy vehicles during peak times.
  • – MIDC should transfer planned truck terminal land to PMRDA for development, and companies should manage their own truck and container parking.

Pawar emphasized the urgency of these actions to prevent further traffic issues and ensure smoother traffic flow in Chakan.
