A significant initiative to support and assist victims of various crimes was launched at the New Building of the District & Sessions Court, Shivajinagar, Pune. Under the esteemed guidance of Hon’ble District & Session Judge, Pune and Chairman of District Legal Services Authority, Pune Mahendra K. mahajan, the “Help Desk for Victims” was inaugurated.

Patil not only conceptualized and organized the program but also played a key role in ensuring its successful implementation.

The primary aim of the Help Desk is to provide legal aid and support to victims of serious crimes such as sexual abuse, rape, acid attacks, and child abuse. Those who have suffered violence are not defined by what was done to them, but by their strength, resilience, and the courage to rebuild their lives, with the support and care provided under the Manodhairya scheme.

The inauguration was marked by insightful speeches from both Sonal S. Patil and Hon’ble Mahendra K. Mahajan, District & Sessions Judge, Pune, and Chairman of DLSA Pune. Mahajan acknowledged the importance of the initiative, emphasizing that such programs are essential for ensuring that victims receive not only legal support but also societal reintegration. His speech motivated attendees to stand together and advocate for the rights of victims.

In her address, Sonal S. Patil highlighted the crucial role of the Help Desk in providing assistance to victims through the Manodhairya Yojana, a scheme introduced in 2018. This scheme offers counseling, protection, financial support, and medical aid to victims, ensuring comprehensive support for their rehabilitation and a brighter future. She also shared key statistics that underline the impact of the scheme:

2023: A total of 248 applications were received, with 209 successfully disposed of, providing benefits to the victims.

2024: 402 applications were received, and 338 cases were successfully resolved.

Patil further elaborated on some significant cases where the DLSA Pune and the Manodhairya Yojana made a notable difference:

Khed Police Station Case: Two young sisters, aged 8 and 9, were victims of murder and rape under the PoCso Act. DLSA Pune provided ₹10 Lakhs to each victim’s family under the Manodhairya Scheme.

Bapdev Ghat Case: In this case, swift action was taken to provide legal help and financial support, with the victim receiving ₹5 Lakhs under the scheme.

Hadapsar Area Acid Attack Case: A woman who was a victim of an acid attack by her husband and his relatives was granted ₹10 Lakhs for her medical expenses and rehabilitation under the scheme.

Through these efforts, DLSA Pune and the Manodhairya Yojana aim to empower victims, providing them with both legal resources and emotional support to overcome the trauma and move forward with their lives.

The Help Desk initiative is a vital step towards ensuring that victims of crime not only receive justice but also the care, protection, and support they need. Both Sonal S. Patil and Mahendra K. Mahajan reaffirmed their commitment to continue supporting victims through this Help Desk.
