Pune News: Government And Private Establishments Urged To Form Committees Under Sexual Harassment Prevention Act

Pune, January 17: The District Women and Child Development Office has mandated that all government and private establishments employing 10 or more staff must form an Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) to address, investigate, and penalize cases of workplace sexual harassment against women.  

Under the provisions of the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition, and Redressal) Act, 2013, it is compulsory for all government offices, local authority offices, private companies, organizations, factories, hospitals, schools, colleges, hotels, shops, banks, and similar institutions to establish an ICC. The Supreme Court has also directed the formation of such committees.  

Failure to comply with the law may lead to a fine of up to ₹50,000 for office heads or proprietors.  

District Women and Child Development Officer, Manisha Biraris, has also appealed for the submission of the 2024 annual report by January 22 to their office at 29/2 Gulmarg Park Cooperative Housing Society, 3rd Floor, near Jadhav Bakers, Somwar Peth, Pune – 411011, or via email at [email protected]. Monthly and quarterly reports must also be submitted regularly.
