Pune: Electrician Working In Mahalunge Society Arrested For Raping And Attempting To Kill 85 Year Old Woman
A shocking incident of rape and attempted murder of an 85-year-old woman has come to light in Pimpri-Chinchwad, Maharashtra. The accused, 23-year-old Om Jayachandra Puri, was arrested by Hinjawadi police within hours of the complaint.
According to police, the victim was walking in front of her residential flat on Sunday at 6:30 pm when Puri attacked her from behind, dragged her down the stairs, and raped her. He also attempted to kill her. The victim’s family searched for her when she didn’t return home and found her lying in the open space under the stairs, bleeding from her lips.
The family immediately rushed her to the hospital, and a complaint was filed with the police. Deputy Commissioner of Police, Vishal Gaikwad, ensured prompt action, and the accused was arrested in just a few hours.
The police produced Puri in the Shivajinagar court on Tuesday, where public prosecutor Varsharani Jadhav demanded police custody. The court granted five-day police custody, allowing investigators to gather evidence and build a strong case against the accused.
The incident highlights concerns about security in residential societies. Police urge security guards to verify workers’ identities and inform flat owners about their presence. “Security guards need to deal with concerned flat holders regarding workers’ entry and stay in the society,” said DCP Gaikwad.
The swift action by Hinjewadi police is commendable, and the case will be closely monitored to ensure justice for the victim. The accused’s arrest and police custody will aid in unraveling the circumstances surrounding this heinous crime.
