Pune Faces Sudden Temperature Drop and Hazy Skies

Since Tuesday, February 13, 2024, Pune has experienced an unexpected decline in temperature, surpassing the typical 34–35 degrees Celsius range. Adding to this, cyclonic disturbances in Maharashtra and a trough passing through Uttar Pradesh have contributed to the recent haziness in Pune’s skies. Furthermore, recent rainfall in neighboring states has led to a cooling effect within Pune city.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) reports that while the maximum temperature in Pune is anticipated to decrease, there might be a slight rise in the minimum temperature. This temperature differential is expected to make Pune feel chillier than usual. These weather patterns are likely to persist for the next 4–5 days.

Currently, Pune witnesses maximum temperatures hovering around 34–35 degrees Celsius, with minimum temperatures dropping to 12–13 degrees Celsius. Experts note that unlike the northern regions of the country, Pune and Maharashtra have not experienced the benefits of cold waves due to moisture incursion from the Bay of Bengal, hindering their entry into the state. Consequently, temperatures have been higher than usual, causing discomfort among residents.

Today’s recorded maximum temperature stands at 32 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature is forecasted to decrease to 17 degrees Celsius by nightfall.
