Senior journalist Nikhil Wagle has been charged by the Pune city police for allegedly making defamatory remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi and senior BJP leader L K Advani. The accusations stemmed from the announcement that Advani would be receiving India’s highest civilian honour, the Bharat Ratna.

Early on Friday, senior BJP leader Sunil Deodhar filed a first information report (FIR) at the Vishrambaug police station. Wagle has been charged under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 153A, 500 and 505.

Deodhar had gone to the Vishrambaug police station with a complaint application against Wagle, hoping to get him sued. An FIR has been filed by the police in this instance. According to Deodhar’s allegations in the FIR, Wagle attempted to sabotage social harmony by offending multiple people with his disparaging remarks about Advani and PM Modi.

Wagle is scheduled to speak at a public gathering program on Friday evening called “Nirbhay Bano,” but the Pune BJP unit has written to the Pune city police to request that permission be denied. The BJP has vowed to sabotage the show.

On 8th February, Pune City President of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Dheeraj Ghate has demanded that the police should deny permission to the ‘Nirbhay Bano’ program of journalist Nikhil Wagle, who has been making controversial statements to gain popularity – https://stage.mypunepulse.com/bjp-warns-of-disturbing-journalist-nikhil-wagles-program-writes-to-parvati-police-station/
