Pune : The Central Bee Research and Training Institute (CBRTI) located in Shivaji Nagar on Ganeshkhind road is a unique institute which deals with apicultural research, training and dissemination of technologies in beekeeping.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Sunil Pokre, Assistant Director, CBRTI said, “Firstly, the institute began in Mahabaleshwar as a small agricultural lab in 1952.  In 1962, when the institute began in Pune, we didn’t have enough space for the units. So, our units were scattered in different areas. Later, all the units came together under one roof in Shivajinagar. One of our major objectives to start the institute was to improve the performance and productivity of honeybee produced in India.”
