Pune Gets State-of-the-Art Biosecurity Lab and Super Specialty Veterinary Hospital In Aundh
Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and Pankaja Munde were present for the inauguration ceremony of the BSL-2 and BSL-3 biosecurity laboratories, the National Reference Vaccine Testing and Quality Control Laboratory, and the Super Specialty Veterinary Hospital established under the National Agricultural Development Scheme at the Commissionerate of Animal Husbandry, Aundh, Pune, by the Maharashtra Animal Husbandry Department.
Pawar in his speech said, “With the availability of BSL-II and BSL-III laboratories, we now have the capacity to test and diagnose zoonotic diseases (such as Avian Influenza) that transmit from animals to humans.
This will help ensure not only livestock health but also the well-being of the environment and general public. A fund of Rs. 75.615 crore has been provided for these labs under the National Agricultural Development Scheme.”

The Veterinary Biologicals Production Institute at Aundh is the only such facility under the state government’s animal husbandry department that manufactures preventive vaccines for domestic animals and birds.
This project will provide high-quality, standard-compliant vaccines to livestock owners as a defense against several deadly infectious diseases.
Additionally, due to increasing urbanization, it has been observed that 95-96% of patients visiting veterinary hospitals are pet animals. To provide them with top-notch and modern treatment facilities, a Super Specialty Veterinary Hospital has been established. “This hospital will offer advanced medical services across various departments, enabling expert treatment for pets through the support of specialized doctors. I firmly believe that this entire project will significantly benefit animal husbandry and public health alike,” Pawar added.
