Pune: Concerned about the increasing number of deaths occurring at tourist places, especially in the second half of August 2023, many guards have appealed to tourists not to engage themselves in any life-threatening stunts at water bodies, trekking etc.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Baliram Waikar, a forest guard at Sinhagad Fort said, “We have put various sign boards of hazards, probable spots of gorge falling and more at various places on Sinhagad Ghat as well as on the fort. We are also appealing to people to not drive their vehicles fast in the ghat area, especially during the rains as the roads tend to get a lot wet due to rainwater.”

Tanaji Bhosale, a lifeguard in the Sinhagad area said, “Since it is the rainy season, many people go for a walk in the scenic areas or travel to a tourist destination. When people see water there, they are tempted to get into it. Families or relatives or children & others need to be extremely vigilant about going swimming in rivers, lakes, dam backwaters etc. Life is only one & very precious. Even a small enthralling moment can be life-threatening.”

As per the information, the following are some drowning incidents that happened in the second half of August 2023:
