The Maharashtra government has extended the deadline for installing High-Security Registration Plates (HSRPs) for vehicles registered before April 1, 2019, from March 30 to April 30 to prevent last-minute congestion.

State Transport Commissioner Vivek Bhimanwar stated, “We aim to ensure a hassle-free process. If difficulties persist, we may extend the deadline further.” Despite 24,28,589 vehicles in Pune needing HSRPs, only 9,048 have been fitted so far, officials said.

Website Glitches Frustrate Applicants
Many vehicle owners reported website issues while applying for HSRPs. Several vehicle owners reported difficulties with the HSRP application process on mhhsrp.com. Users cited frequent errors while retrieving vehicle details from the Vahan database. Others complained about slow loading times and repeated website crashes, making it challenging to book appointments.

RTO Offers Assistance
Pune Regional Transport Officer Archana Gaikwad advised applicants to contact the helpline at 7836888822 or email [email protected] for support.

However, Ashutosh Swami from Lohegaon shared his frustration: “The helpline asked me to email my issue with supporting documents, promising a 24-48 hour response. The delay is driving people to purchase fake plates.”

The extension aims to ease the process, but applicants hope for prompt resolution of technical issues.
