Pune:Â Illegal Water Diversion Sparks Crisis In Vadgaon Sheri And Kharadi, Residents Threaten AgitationÂ
The residents of Vadgaon Sheri and Kharadi are facing severe water shortages due to the alleged illegal diversion of their allocated supply. Citizens claim that a valve operator is redirecting water meant for these areas to Ghorpadi and Tadigutta under political pressure.
This issue was recently raised in the state assembly, where the Speaker ordered an investigation into the matter. However, no action has been taken by the municipal water supply department. It has been revealed that unauthorized connections have been made to the express water pipeline, which legally should not be shared with other areas.
Due to this, Vadgaon Sheri and Kharadi residents are struggling for water while an estimated 1.5 lakh liters per five minutes—totaling over 60-70 lakh liters daily—is being diverted elsewhere.
Social activist Sanket Ratna Rajendra Galande stated, “The valve operator is manipulating the system at night, preventing water tanks in Vadgaon Sheri and Kharadi from filling up. If this illegal connection is not cut off by March 23, we will stage a protest against the water supply department. The main reason for the water shortage in Vadgaon Sheri and Kharadi is the large-scale diversion of water. Every five minutes, around 1.5 lakh liters of water—totaling over 60 to 70 lakh liters daily—is being redirected to Ghorpadi and Tadigutta.”
MLA Bapusaheb Pathare has raised this issue before the Assembly Speaker and has demanded the closure of the unauthorized pipeline. If this is not shut down by March, a hunger strike will be launched along with the residents.
Despite repeated complaints, municipal authorities have yet to respond, raising concerns among affected residents who demand immediate action.
