In the early hours of yesterday, at approximately 1:48 am, the fire brigade sprang into action upon receiving a call reporting a fire outbreak in a seventh-floor apartment at Gangadham Phase 2, Wing G 5 in Market Yard, Pune.

Six fire tenders and a water tanker promptly rushed from Gangadham, Kondhwa Khurd, and the headquarters to the spot. The firefighting personnel, led by officers Sanjay Ramteke and Kailas Shinde, swiftly attended to the accident and found that a four-room apartment was emitting thick plumes of smoke.

The firefighters immediately began battling the flames using hoses while ensuring the safety of the residents. Tragically, five members of a family were discovered trapped on the balcony amidst the chaos. Among them were an elderly woman, a couple, and their two young children. Through coordinated efforts, the firefighters managed to rescue them from the perilous situation, averting a potential disaster.

After around thirty minutes of relentless effort, the fire was successfully brought under control. Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire originated from a burning lamp in an adjacent room, resulting in the complete destruction of household belongings within the apartment. The timely response of the fire brigade prevented the spread of the fire to neighboring units, potentially saving further lives.

However, the incident shed light on a concerning issue as it was revealed that the permanent fire extinguisher within the building was non-operational at the time of the fire. Despite this setback, the bravery and quick actions of the firefighters prevented a catastrophic outcome.

The family members rescued from the blaze, identified as Mahesh Babulal Oswal, Bhakti Mahesh Oswal, Usha Babulal Oswal, Ahana Mahesh Oswal, and Aarav Mahesh Oswal, owe their lives to the selfless dedication of these firefighters who risked their own safety to ensure the safety of others.
