Pune: Under the Green Metro initiative, Pune Metro will install solar panels in all metro stations which will generate a total of 9 MW of solar energy. Recently, the Pune Metro has installed a 750 KW solar unit on the roof of the Integrated Workshop Building at Range Hill Depot that generates around 2800 units of electricity.

As per the official data shared by the Public Relations and Administration Department of Pune Metro, Dr Hemant Sonawane said, “Out of the 9MW capacity planned solar panels, 5MW of the total capacity will be completed by November 2023, and the remaining 4MW will be completed by Feb 2024.”

Currently, solar plants have been commissioned on 9 stations of Pune Metro, with 4 stations from Reach-01 (PCMC to Phugewadi) and 5 stations from Reach-02 (Vanaz to Garware College). These solar plants have a total capacity of around 2.3 MW and generate approximately 11,500 units of electricity every day.

The solar plants at these 9 commissioned stations save Rs 85000 per day on electricity i.e. around Rs 25.5 lakhs per month.
