Pune, April 12, 2026: In a move to strengthen public transportation and improve urban mobility, Pune Metro presented detailed plans for the upcoming Line 4 (Khadakwasla–Hadapsar–Kharadi) and Line 4A (Karvenagar–Warje–Manikbaug) corridors before residents during an outreach programme held in Karvenagar.

The event, organised under the ‘Pune Metro Samvad’ initiative at Ichalkaranji Hall, aimed to create awareness and transparency about the newly approved metro corridors among citizens, particularly from Kothrud, Karvenagar, and Sinhagad Road areas.

Minister for Higher and Technical Education and Parliamentary Affairs, Chandrakant Patil, attended the event as the chief guest. Senior officials from Maha Metro, including Managing Director Shravan Hardikar (IAS) and Director Atul Gadgil, were also present.

During the session, Maha Metro MD Shravan Hardikar delivered a comprehensive presentation outlining the current status of Pune Metro and future plans for Lines 4 and 4A. He stated that the project is expected to be completed within approximately four years.

Once operational, the new metro corridors are expected to significantly reduce travel time, improve connectivity, and ease traffic congestion in key residential zones such as Kothrud, Karvenagar, and Warje.

Hardikar also highlighted ongoing efforts to improve last-mile connectivity, including shuttle bus services and prepaid auto-rickshaw facilities from SNDT Metro Station to Kothrud. He added that coordination with PMPML is underway to introduce additional feeder bus services to enhance metro accessibility.

The presentation also emphasized the implementation of Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) along metro routes, aimed at optimizing infrastructure use and promoting integrated transport planning. This approach will ensure seamless connectivity between buses, auto-rickshaws, and metro services, benefiting densely populated areas.

Residents actively participated in the session, raising queries regarding the project, which were addressed by officials.

Addressing the gathering, Chandrakant Patil said that when the metro project was first introduced in 2016, it seemed like a distant vision, but has now become an integral part of daily life in Pune. He credited financial support from the central and state governments for the progress of the project.

Emphasizing the future of urban mobility, Hardikar noted that Pune must shift towards increased use of public transport and walking. He added that Pune Metro aims to offer a reliable, sustainable, and efficient transport system for everyday commuters.

The event witnessed the presence of former corporators, local representatives, and officials from the Municipal Corporation and Maha Metro. The initiative received a positive response from citizens, reinforcing public engagement and confidence in Pune Metro’s expansion plans.
