Pune, August 12: A motorbike rally was organized at Sinhagad to promote and spread awareness about the World Heritage nomination. The event was conducted through the Archaeology Department as part of the promotional campaign.

The Maratha military region, a symbol of Maharashtra’s pride and identity, has been proposed for inclusion in the World Heritage list. This presents a golden opportunity to witness this nomination. Under the guidance of District Collector Dr. Suhas Diwase and the leadership of Assistant Director Dr. Vilas Vahane from the Archaeology Department, the event was organized.

The rally began with slogans praising Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the fluttering of saffron and tricolor flags, and a call for cleanliness and public awareness.

Twelve forts associated with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in Maharashtra have been proposed for the World Heritage nomination. A UNESCO representative committee will visit these forts in October. Meanwhile, a promotional campaign is being conducted under the District Collector’s orders. The rally started from the vehicle parking area at Sinhagad with 100 motorcycles, organized through the Archaeology Department. During the event, Dr. Vahane called on fort enthusiasts, social organizations, and citizens to unite for the nomination of the twelve forts as World Heritage sites. Participants, including fort enthusiasts, citizens, Archaeology Department staff, and social organization representatives, took an oath to maintain the forts’ cleanliness and promote the World Heritage nomination.

The initiative saw participation from the Archaeological Survey of India, State Archaeology Department, Pune District Collector, Pune Forest Department, Aamhi Pune Kar, SWAN, and the WE Foundation. The campaign was organized with the support of Aamhi Pune Kar. Dr. Priyank Jawale of 108, Riders of Dakkhan, and Help Riders also joined the rally.
