Pune, April 27, 2026: Pune experienced intense heat on Sunday, with the maximum temperature rising to 41.8°C, placing the city close to heat wave conditions, according to weather experts.

Data from the India Meteorological Department shows that the Shivajinagar observatory recorded 41.8°C, which is 3.1°C above the seasonal average. This marks one of the highest April temperatures in recent years. Similar peak temperatures were recorded in April 2022 and 2024, while the highest ever for the month remains 43°C in 2019.

Several parts of the city also reported elevated temperatures. Chinchwad recorded 41.2°C, Magarpatta 40.9°C, Hadapsar 40.3°C, Pashan 40.1°C, and the NDA area 39.3°C. In localities such as Koregaon Park and Lohegaon, temperatures hovered close to 43°C.

Meteorologists indicate that a heat wave is officially declared when temperatures rise 4–5°C above normal levels. Experts noted that while Pune has not yet crossed that threshold, current conditions are approaching it.

Weather specialists have also highlighted discomfort due to persistently warm nights, with minimum temperatures staying above 20°C. On Sunday, Pune recorded a minimum temperature of 21°C, among the lowest in the state, but still contributing to overall discomfort.

Forecasts suggest that both day and night temperatures may rise slightly over the next few days, intensifying heat stress. While partly cloudy skies are expected, the likelihood of rainfall in Pune remains low, with only isolated light showers predicted in parts of southeastern Maharashtra.

Meanwhile, Vidarbha continues to bear the brunt of extreme heat, with Akola recording a scorching 46.9°C. Authorities have issued weather alerts for the region, warning of continued high temperatures along with possible thunderstorms and gusty winds later in the week.
