Pune News: 19-Year-Old Woman Abandons Newborn At Sassoon Hospital, Police File FIR
A 19-year-old woman who delivered a baby boy at Sassoon General Hospital in Pune allegedly abandoned her newborn and left the facility just two days after childbirth, according to police.
The investigating officer stated that the woman was last seen feeding the infant around 2:30 PM on May 19. Just half an hour later, hospital staff noticed her absence. She had been admitted to the hospital on May 17 and gave birth at approximately 8:08 AM the same day.
Hospital records indicate the woman claimed to be a resident of Dange Chowk in Pimpri. After delivering the baby, she was moved to the postnatal ward, where both she and the child were under observation.
However, on May 23, Bundgarden police registered an FIR against the woman under Section 93 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for allegedly abandoning her child.
With no trace of the mother and uncertainty over whether any relatives had visited her during her stay, authorities have launched a search to locate her. Meanwhile, the newborn has been handed over to a social organisation in Nigdi for care and protection.
