Pune News : Excise department seizes truck with alcohol worth Rs 65.90  lakh in Pune

Pune: The state excise department’s Pune unit seized total alcohol, containing beer and foreign liqour worth Rs 86 lakh from the Somatane toll plaza area of Pune on Saturday evening, March 11, according to a statement issued by the department. The officials seized a truck with several boxes of alcohol meant for sale only in Goa, according to Yuvraj Shinde, divisional deputy commissioner of excise department.

The driver Shankarlal Narayan Joshi (46) from Rajasthan was arrested while another accused in the case Ompuri is absconding. A case regarding same has been registered by excise department under Sections 65(a)(e), 81, 83, 90, 103,and 108 of Maharashtra Prohibition Act.

The raid was conducted by the excise department based on an information received from an informer, that a ten-wheeled truck was carrying alcohol that was meant for sale only in Goa. The truck was found to be registered in Tamil Nadu and was carrying 445 liquor boxes. All liquor was made in Goa and was meant for Goa, said officials. State excise department has seized a total worth of Rs 86 lakh including liquor including a container (Rs 65.90 lakh) and further investigation is underway, said Shinde.
