Pune: Rahul Shewale, deputy sarpanch of Shewalewadi and a member of Bharatiya Janata Party has complained to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and District Collector of Pune to stop the construction of a project called ‘Joyville’ of Shapoorji Pallonji Group citing air and noise pollution.

As per information, Shewale said that due to the construction of ‘Joyville’ in Shewalewadi, there is a lot of air and noise pollution in the area. As a result, this construction should be stopped.

The complaint letter, accessed by Pune Pulse, alleged that while doing the construction work, the builder has also cut down a large number of trees. Also, the trucks carrying construction materials have increased and since the construction is going on till late at night there is noise pollution as well.

There is an increase in respiratory and other diseases spreading in the areas. The citizens are unable to sleep peacefully due to construction work going on late in the night. The construction workers are drunk and roam elsewhere in the village. Despite this, why is the administration turning a blind eye to it ?

The complaint letter further said that the High Court of Bombay itself has taken notice of the rapidly deteriorating air quality in Pune.

Reacting to the allegations, a spokesperson of the Shapoorji Pallonji Group said, “At Joyville Shapoorji Housing, our dedication to environmental sustainability and community well-being is unwavering. As a responsible developer, we understand the impact of construction activities on the environment. To mitigate these concerns, we have implemented stringent measures to control dust emissions, advanced construction methodologies to minimize noise, and invested in technologies that reduce our overall environmental footprint. Adhering strictly to all governing laws and regulations is a cornerstone of our ethos. Our focus on environmental stewardship remains steadfast.”
