The residents of Fursungi & Uruli Devachi deny the decision of making both the villages as municipal councils.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Deepali Sardeshmukh, President, Maharashtra Alert Citizens Forum, said “Why is the government not keen on including Fursungi & Uruli Devachi in the list of municipalities? Both the areas have developed so much now. Although the previous census of 2011 states that the total population of both the areas is 75,000+, now it’s been 12 years. So, obviously the population has increased a lot. Also, new census hasn’t been conducted yet. Based on the census of 2011, you can’t decide the current status of these villages as the population has increased majorly. Then how can both these villages be said as municipal councils ? If you want to make these villages municipalities again, at least wait till the next census happens then decide. This is very wrong & we strongly condemn this decision.”

As per information from Deepali Sardeshmukh, even when there are similar problems in 34+ many villages in the entire Pune city and district, through pressure on the government administration, taking unfair anti-public interest decisions on the common people of Pune Fursungi for political and financial interests, the arbitrarily passive people’s representatives, members of the city improvement committee, who made only the two villages of Fursungi and Uruli Devachi. Public protest on behalf of Punekars and local taxpayers of Fursungi against the administrative system that imposes illegal decisions on the people by corporators.

Deepali Sardeshmukh says that if these two villages are included back in municipal councils list, then the current administration would be immensely insufficient for such a huge population as the population of both the villages is in lakhs now. So, both villages should remain in the Municipal Corporation’s list.

As per information from Namdev Nagtilak, Talathi, Fursungi, although the population of Fursungi & Uruli Devachi is 75 thousand+ according to 2011 census, it has certainly increased to at least 1.5 to 2 lakh now. Just because current official numbers are not there, nobody can say that the population of both villages is still the same as per 2011 census.
