Pune News: Hinjawadi IT Hub Faces Water Logging Issues Despite Efforts
Hinjawadi’s Information Technology hub continues to struggle with traffic congestion, poor road conditions, and frequent waterlogging, despite significant efforts to address these problems. The Hinjewadi Industries Association (HIA), which represents IT and ITES companies, has been pushing for government intervention. Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar had directed improvements, but issues persist.
A comprehensive inspection of the Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park (RGIP) was conducted by Tata Projects Limited (TPL), MIDC, and the Hinjewadi traffic division. The HIA shared the survey’s findings with the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), which then issued a notice to the Pune IT City Metro Rail Limited (PITCMRL), responsible for the Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar metro project. PITCMRL has been given 15 days to repair the roads.
Lt Col (Retd) Yogesh Joshi, Vice President, Hinjawadi Industries Association told Pune Pulse that a meeting was held solely to discuss water logging issues in Hinjawadi. There were certain spots which were identified and solutions have been discussed. We are now hoping that prompt action is taken. Water logging was caused at many spots due to debris dumping, no cleaning of drainage and storm water lines.
Local reports indicate that resurfacing efforts have started, but the HIA remains concerned about the effectiveness of these temporary fixes. In a meeting with PMRDA chief engineer Rinaj Pathan, HIA officials urged for both short-term and long-term solutions, said Joshi.
The inspection also revealed six major waterlogging spots. Engineers found debris in water channels, largely dumped by TPL, which worsened flooding. Although TPL initially accepted responsibility, it later shifted the blame to Rahul Cables. Both companies have promised temporary fixes by August 31, 2024. The HIA demands that PMRDA ensure all agencies meet their obligations and address drainage issues, particularly in Gram Panchayat areas.
