The Hinjawadi police took action against hookah parlors operating in two hotels – Hotel Spice Factory and Hotel Sea Dock near Kasturi Chowk on Monday and seized goods worth Rs 49, 400.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Ram Gomare, Assistant Police Inspector, Hinjawadi Police, confirming the same said, “The raids were done on the 2 hookah parlors on February 26. Various types of goods have been seized & the accused have been arrested.”

As per further information from Pimpri Chinchwad Police, the Hinjawadi police received information that an illegal hookah parlour was running in the Hotel Spice Factory at Wakad within the Hinjewadi police station limits. Accordingly, the police conducted a raid and confiscated an iron barbecue electric grill, coal, and hookah materials worth a total of 15, 800 rupees. The names of the accused are Swapnil Dange, owner of Hotel Spice Factory, and Tanaji Sayaji Desai. Police officer Dattatray Shinde has filed a complaint at Hinjawadi police station in this regard.

Another operation was carried out at Hotel Sea Dock near Kasturi Chowk. Police Constable Chandrakant Gade has filed a complaint at Hinjawadi Police Station in this regard. Accordingly, a case has been registered against Kishore Dilip Kate, Akshay Prabhakar Kalate, and Dinesh Suresh Kate. The accused supplied hookah to customers without obtaining any license to run a hookah parlor in their Hotel Sea Dock. After receiving information about this, the police raided and took action. In this, the police have confiscated 33, 600 rupees.

The accused in both the cases have been booked under Sections 285, and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) & Sections 4, and 21 of the Cigarettes and other Tobacco Products Act, 2003. Police are further investigating the case.
