In a heroic rescue, the officers from Kothrud Fire Station saved the lives of 23 people who were stuck inside Bhujbal Township in Kothrud when a huge fire was there on the 11th floor of the township.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Gajanan Pathrudkar, Fire Station Officer, PMC Kothrud Fire Station, said “The fire was huge when we reached the township. The fire broke out in an apartment on the eleventh floor of the building located in the residential area of Bhujbal Township, Kothrud. Fire officers were immediately deployed to the spot. The 11th floor apartment was in flames, with thick black smoke pouring out of the windows and doors of the building. Up to 23 people were trapped inside the building and were trying to get out to safety. With only a few fire officers available, we were faced with a dilemma. We had to douse the flames and rescue people by using a rope, and dragged the hosepipe from the fire truck to the eleventh floor.”

Pathrudkar further added “Jet and spray were used to put out the fire. Mud pots and bricks were laid around, and the firemen smashed glass windows to clear the smoke, allowing us to see the impact of fire so that we could plan out dousing the fire. The firemen needed to break down a door in the final corner room, which was deep inside, to access a firefighting system that was used to extinguish the fire. After 45 minutes of dousing the fire, we were successful in rescuing all 23 people.”

Pathrudkar further said that when a fire is lit, people need not worry or panic as most of the fires can be doused using fire extinguishers, water etc.
