Pune News : Lions Clubs International holds a mega e-waste collection drive on Feb 11 and 12 on NIBM Road

Lions Clubs International is proud to announce the launch of its latest community initiative, the E-Waste Collection Drive. The aim of the drive is to collect electronic waste such as old smartphones, computers and TVs, etc., in order to reduce the impact on the environment and prevent toxic substances from entering landfills.

 Keeping in mind the seriousness of e-waste, this awareness campaign has been started by the International Vice President of Lions International, Lion AP Singh, simultaneously across the globe from January 13 to February 13. The world’s largest e-waste collection campaign started under the leadership of Lions International Coordinator PID Sangeeta Jatiya is gaining unexpected success. 

In District 3234 D2, this public awareness and collection campaign is going to be completed on a very wide scale from 05 February to 13 February 2023 through 127 Lions Clubs and more than 150 collection centres in the entire district.

Prominent organizations include Federation of Trade Association of Pune, Pune Merchant Chamber, Indian Medical Association, Maratha Chambers of Commerce, Builders Association CREDAI, Jain International Trade Organization – JITO, IIA, Pune District Housing Society and Apartments Federation, Panchshil Realty, Pratibha Group of Institute Chinchwad, JSPM Group , Jadwar Group of Institutes, PVPIT, BJS, Jaihind Institute, Bharti Engineering College and more than 30 institutes and colleges in the education sector, IT companies of Hinjewadi- Magarpatta- Kharadi, former corporators of Pune Municipal Corporation, have worked extensively in their respective areas.  

Lion Dr Parmanand Sharma, First Vice District Governor, Lions District 3234 D2 said, “We are thrilled to start the e-waste collection drive and help to protect the environment. “This mega campaign will not only reduce the amount of electronic waste in landfills, but it will also promote sustainability and keep toxic substances out of the environment.”

“Together we take a pledge to plant trees in the name of E-waste donors. One Donor – One Plant”. Individuals and households will be encouraged to bring their old electronics to designated drop-off locations and transportation will be arranged during the collection drive. E-waste donors will be provided with an e-certificate through QR code immediately. Hindustan E-Waste Management Pvt. Ltd. has been contracted at the national level for proper disposal of all collected e-waste and will play an important role in disposal and recycling of this e-waste. The List of items accepted will be provided.

Lion Sunil Checker, Second Vice District Governor said, “Lions Club International is committed to protecting the environment and promoting sustainability. The E-waste collection drive is one of the many initiatives being launched by the organization to help make a positive impact.”

In our area of Wanowrie to Fatima Nagar, Komal Shendkar, Secretary BJP Pune City & Sameer Shendkar – Vice President Parivar Foundation, have created an “E-waste Collection Centre”, at her office public relations office 59/3, Azadnagar, Opp. Kroot Memorial School, Wanowrie.” This collection centre is operational from 10:00 AM – 07:00 PM till 12th February 2023.

In our area of Salunkhe Vihar to Kausarbaug, Nanda Lonkar – Fmr. Corporator, NIBM Road & Narayan Lonkar – President Hadapsar Vidhan Sabha Constituency, Nationalist Congress Party, have created an “E-waste Collection Centre”, at “Lonkar Lawns, NIBM Road”.

The Collection Centre will be Operational on 11th & 12th February 2023 (Saturday & Sunday), from 10:00 AM – 02:00 PM.
