The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) successfully managed the cleanup operations during this year’s Ganeshotsav, collecting a total of 5.59 lakh Ganesha idols and 7.06 lakh kilograms of *nirmalya* (floral offerings) over the 11-day festival.
To ensure smooth immersion processions, over 3,970 civic workers were deployed along key routes including Laxmi Road, Kumthekar Road, and Tilak Road. These teams collected 167 tonnes of garbage and 3.5 tonnes of footwear left behind by devotees.
Sandeep Kadam, head of the PMC’s Solid Waste Management Department, shared that out of the 5.59 lakh idols collected, 1.01 lakh were immersed in artificial tanks, 2.82 lakh in steel tanks, and 1.76 lakh were donated for reuse. Special arrangements were made to collect *nirmalya* near immersion sites, ensuring proper disposal and environmental care.
The PMC also installed 400 mobile toilets at various immersion locations, along with CCTV cameras and streetlights to monitor the activities and maintain safety.
