Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has completed the month-long Katraj Lake desilting process by removing waste and dirt up to 10,000 cubic meters which has allowed for increased water storage up to ten million litres.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Lalit Bendre, Executive Engineer, PMC Drainage Department,  said, ” We were carrying out the desilting process from the last one month. Drones were used to carry out aerial surveys of the topography of the area. The silt was removed with heavy equipment and bulldozers, increasing the water capacity by 10 million litres.”

As per information, the PMC has also constructed a separate drainage line which will stop the build-up of polluted water. The lake had been receiving a lot of polluted water and effluent waste, which had left behind a lot of silt.

Due to the desilting, in addition to the increased water storage capacity, the immediate progression of sewage water into the lake has now been halted.
