Pune News: PMC demolishes 45 dilapidated Wadas from Peth areas

Pune: Taking action against dilapidated condition of old ‘Wadas’ in the Peth areas of Pune, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has demolished 45 such ‘Wadas’ in the past. PMC has initiated a drive from May 1, 2023, to take action against such ‘Waadas’ which are prone to mishaps as they are not maintained properly. As per information, notices have been also sent to 88 such Waadas as of now.
Speaking to Pune Pulse, Pravin Shende, Junior Engineer, Construction Department, PMC said, ” We have demolished 45 dangerous ‘Waadas’ from several peth areas like Budhwar Peth, Shukrawar Peth, Rasta Peth etc from May 1 to July 20 as they were in a dilapidated condition and posed risks. We have also identified 88 such ‘Waadas’ and notices have been sent to all of them. The old ‘Waadas’ are mostly wooden structures. Once they become ole and are not maintained properly, they pose risks to people as it can collapse anytime.”
Shende further informed that the PMC has identified 2232 such ‘Waadas’ in all the peth areas such as Shukrawar Peth, Ganesh Peth, Kasba Peth, Budhwar Peth, Nana Peth, Mangalwar Peth, Narayan Peth, Rasta Peth, Raviwar Peth, Sadashiv Peth, Shaniwar Peth, Somwar Peth, Guruwar Peth, Ganj Peth, Bhavani Peth and Ghorpade Peth.
PMC has sent notices to 88 such ‘Waadas’ in which:
- · 22 are in Kasba Peth
- · 19 are in Shukrawar Peth
- · 14 are in Rasta Peth
- · 11 are in Somwar Peth
- · 6 are in Budhwar Peth
- · 5 are in Mangalwar Peth
- · 3 are in Raviwar Peth
- · 3 are in Guruwar Peth
- · 2 are in Nana Peth
- · 2 are in Ganesh Peth
- · 1 is in Bhavani Peth
45 ‘Waadas’ have been taken down from different areas:
- · 13 ‘Waadas’ belong to Rasta Peth
- · 10 ‘Waadas belong to Shukrawar Peth
- · 5 ‘Waadas’ belong to Kasba Peth
- · 5 ‘Waadas’ belong to Mangalwar Peth
- · 3 ‘Waadas belong to Guruwar Peth
- · 3 ‘Waadas’ belong to Raviwar Peth
- · 2 ‘Waadas’ belong to Nana Peth
- · 2 ‘Waadas’ belong to Ganesh Peth
- · 1 ‘Waada’ belongs to Somwar Peth
- · 1 ‘Waada’ belongs to Bhavani Peth
The PMC has clarified that the other 43 ‘Waadas’ will be razed soon & inspection & survey for other dangerous ‘Waadas’ is going on as well.
