Urgent road repairs and pothole fixes have been fast-tracked in Pune as the city prepares for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming visit for the inauguration of the underground metro stretch.

In anticipation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Pune on September 27 for the inauguration of the underground metro extension to Swargate, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has launched urgent road repair efforts. The move comes after heavy criticism following President Droupadi Murmu’s visit earlier this month, during which her convoy struggled with poor road conditions, including potholes.

After receiving feedback from the President of India’s office, Pune’s city police formally requested the PMC to expedite repairs on VVIP routes. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Branch) G Shreedhar stated, “We have urged the PMC to make the roads pothole-free, especially in areas where the PM is expected to travel.”

PMC’s road department, has been mobilized to address the repairs. “We are working on prominent roads, particularly those around Swargate, University Road and Senapati Bapat Road. We have also instructed ward offices to undertake repairs within their jurisdictions,” said official. Repair teams and vans have been deployed across the city to ensure swift action.

The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) and Maha Metro have also been asked to repair roads affected by ongoing metro construction and to clear any debris in the surrounding areas.

With Modi’s visit looming, the PMC has assured that all necessary road repairs will be completed in time, ensuring smooth travel for the Prime Minister and highlighting the importance of road infrastructure for Pune’s ongoing development efforts.
