The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has decided to extend the deadline for submitting PT (Property tax) 3 forms to the tax department in order to receive a 40% property tax concession. The original deadline was November 30, 2023, but fewer than one lakh citizens have submitted the necessary forms.

Ajit Deshmukh, head of PMC’s property tax department, stated that November 30 was the deadline for completing the PT 3 forms. Only 96,257 citizens have filled out the form, though. In order for the citizens to take advantage of the 40% property tax reduction, the PMC will now permit them to submit this form after the deadline.

If citizens wanted to take advantage of the concession, the PMC had asked them to fill out PT 3 forms, submit them to the tax department by November 30, and state that they were residents of their own homes. The civic body even issued a warning to the public, telling them that if they failed to turn in the forms by the deadline, they would forfeit the rebate.

A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) member stated that The PMC asked citizens to fill out forms, even though the state government had asked the PMC to continue with the concession as before. Less than a lakh citizens have completed the forms. They demand that the program be implemented as it was originally intended, without adding more administrative work.

A Nationalist Congress Party’s (NCP) member stated that the PMC is bothering citizens and making them fill out forms needlessly. For new properties, property taxes are already extremely high. Without making the people perform all of this work, the PMC ought to make some accommodations.

The PMC also stated that those submitting their forms beyond November 30 will be applicable for discount in the next Financial year starting from April 1, 2024 after the team conducts thorough survey of the self occupied property and the documents.
